  • Ocelots are wild cats found in South America, Central America, Mexico, the United States and the Caribbean.
  • They are around 50 cm (20 inches) in length when fully grown.
  • Ocelots spend most of their time alone and are most active in the early evening and night.
  • Ocelots are carnivores, hunting and eating animals such as possums, rodents, birds and reptiles.
  • Ocelots have beautiful fur featuring a range of dark spots and stripes. The color pattern is unique to each ocelot and can be used to tell them apart.
  • They prefer to live in forests near sources of water and prey.
  • Ocelots are agile climbers, resting in trees during the day.
  • They are territorial and may aggressively fight over land.
  • Ocelot kittens live in dens for around three months and stay with their mother for close to two years.
  • Habitat loss and hunting are the greatest threats to ocelot populations.
